The Battle Begins in The Mind
Understanding Spiritual Strongholds and the Power of a Renewed Mind.
There is a battle going on that many of us do not even realize. It is the battle in our minds.
Oftentimes, we don’t recognize this battle because we assume that our thoughts are entirely our own. Our opinions, criticisms, ideologies, beliefs, and values seem original to us. We believe they reflect who we are and how we see the world. But have we ever stopped to consider where those thoughts and beliefs actually came from?
The truth is, much of what we think and believe has been shaped by our upbringing, our environment, our experiences, and the people who have influenced our lives. These influences help form our understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us.
As we grow older, we develop a broader worldview, but even that worldview continues to be shaped by our experiences, relationships, and the environments in which we live.
Now, these influences are not necessarily bad. There is nothing inherently wrong with learning from our experiences or being shaped by the people around us. However, what has shaped us is not necessarily the standard by which God wants us to live.
Think about that for a moment.
Many of the opinions we hold and the things we consider important are influenced by society’s definition of what is good, acceptable, successful, or valuable. But what society values does not always align with what God values.
This is why, as believers, we are called to live in the world without becoming like the world. Our thinking, beliefs, and values should not simply reflect the culture around us. They should reflect the character, principles, and values of the Kingdom of God.
Our values should be an extension of Kingdom values. What matters to our Father in heaven should matter to us.
And that requires us to examine not only what we believe, but why we believe it.
Scriptures for Meditation
As you reflect on the battle that begins in the mind, take time to meditate on these Scriptures:
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 (KJV)
“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
A Thought to Consider
How much of what you believe reflects the values of the world around you, and how much reflects the Word of God?
